About Head to Health Wellington

Head to Health Wellington is a federally funded mental health service commissioned by Gippsland Primary Health Network (PHN). The service is designed to improve access to free, culturally safe, and evidence‑based mental health care for people living in the Wellington Shire and surrounding communities.

Head to Health services complement existing mental health providers and support people to access the right care, at the right time, close to home.

Our Services

The hub provides care through a multidisciplinary mental health team, including:

  • Psychologists
  • Mental health nurses
  • Social workers
  • Alcohol and other drug workers
  • Counsellors

Services are free and funded by the Australian Government through Gippsland Primary Health Network.

Where to find us?

Head to Health Wellington is location at 10 Inglis Street, Sale VIC, adjacent to Inglis Medical Centre

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
Extended hours appointments are available by appointment only.

We support people of all ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds, with a particular focus on individuals experiencing increased vulnerability, including:

  • Young, adolescent, elderly (including living in residential care facilities)
  • Farmers, and people affected with drought and bushfire
  • People with financial, occupational or family/ relationship issues
  • People experiencing alcohol and other drug concerns
  • People from CALD communities
  • LGBTQIA+ individuals

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a GP referral to access Head to Health Wellington.

You can self‑refer by:

  • Calling our Sale office on (03) 5143 7984, or
  • Calling the National Head to Health access line on 1800 595 212

Our team will discuss your needs and help connect you with the most appropriate support.

Outreach service & Co-locations

Head to Health Wellington delivers the outreach support, to support individuals who may not otherwise be able to access mental health care.

Our outreach services include:

  • Mental health support for residents living in residential aged care facilities
  • Outreach support for older people living at home
  • Co‑located outreach services in Maffra (Johnson Medical Centre) and Yarram

Group Sessions

Our clinicians can provide group-based mental health sessions for vulnerable populations, covering a range of wellbeing and mental health topics.
